Dr Alex Cole, Postdoctoral Researcher in the Centre for Biomedical AI from the Directed Evolution lab has been developing a p53 biosensor. p53 is the most important tumour suppressant gene and prevents cancer from progressing and developing. The gene is mutated in fifty per cent of all cancers. Visualising p53 function in live cells has been a challenge, but this novel biosensor will provide new insight into p53 function.
